Presented by a team consisting of a clinical support specialist and an appeals specialist from UDSMR, this two-part virtual workshop examines results and trends in medical record reviews performed by UDSMR and explains how these findings might be interpreted by an external auditor, a CMS contractor, a Medicare Advantage insurer, or an administrative law judge. The workshop provides participants with a comprehensive review of federal rules and regulations governing Medicare patient admissions to inpatient rehabilitation facilities. Discussions examine the correlation between chart audit findings, denial rationales, and appeals strategies. This workshop will help IRF physicians, clinicians, and compliance personnel improve their documentation and will provide them with the means to support cases challenged by external auditors. The workshop includes changes to the regulations that were new for 2020 and addresses the unique challenges of the Medicare Advantage population. Interactive scenarios allow participants to identify problem areas and to consider strategies for corrective action at their own facilities. The two sessions will take place between 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Eastern.
